We are husband + wife wedding photographers based in Kansas City who have traveled extensively and love crafting portraits in otherworldly locations. We appreciate stunning vistas and storied cities but believe that in travel photography, the extra-special aspect of an image comes with putting people in those places. We also believe that for some couples, the simple extravagance of an elopement is the ideal way to say "I do." Simple in the small number present and unencumbered timeline, extravagant in setting and in the freedom to focus fully on your significant other. we haven't been everywhere,
but it's on our list.
From stunning sunsets to plant life you won't find anywhere else, the desert really does have its own unique charm. It's also one of our very favorite spots for a winter getaway, not to mention home to some amazing Southwest National Parks! Among these are Saguaro (pictured), Grand Canyon, White Sands, Big Bend, Guadalupe Mountains, Joshua Tree and of course Utah's Mighty Five. We're also itching to visit Death Valley! Any of these would undoubtedly be a picture-perfect spot for a desert elopement, with ideal timing being between mid-fall and mid-spring (although we've also sweat it out in the summer!).
Can anything compare to the sound of waves crashing toward the shore? Standing beside the ocean is truly something special, and of course it's also a beautiful photo backdrop! Whether traveling the Southern California coast, island-hopping in Hawaii (pictured), seeing the sun rise over the Atlantic or swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, we've yet to have an ocean experience that wasn't picture-perfect. So it's no surprise so many elopements happen on a beach! Our suggestion: Say your vows at golden hour, then celebrate with a stroll through the surf (and maybe a few more photos!) as the sun sets.
In our book, mountains are the epitome of awe-inspiring. Maybe because we're Midwesterners, trips that put us in the midst of towering peaks bring perpetual inspiration and wonder. In particular, we're partial to locations in the Rockies and the Sierra Nevada – with Yosemite National Park (pictured) especially holding high ranking. Other mountainous favorites include Yosemite's National Park neighbors – Kings Canyon and Sequoia – as well as the alpine lakes of Rocky Mountain National Park, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone National Park and the iconic skyline of Grand Teton National Park.
Arizona and Utah know what they're doing when it comes to natural color! They're also not short on canyons perfect for showcasing that color (and capturing in photos!).
The big day may be over, but those expressions in the getaway car say
it all: The real fun's just beginning.
